Boston: Northeastern University - Cy Young This portrait statue of Cy Young by sculptor Robert Shure was unveiled in 1993 in front of Churchill Hall, at 360 Huntington Avenue off Forsyth Street, on the campus of Northeastern University. This spot was the site of Huntington Avenue Grounds, or Huntington Avenue American League Base Ball Grounds, the baseball home of the Boston Red Sox (known as the Boston Americans until 1907) from 1901-1911. From this spot, where the pitchers mound used to sit, Young pitched the first game at the Huntington Avenue Grounds in 1901, the first World Series game between the modern American and National leagues in 1903, and the first perfect game in the modern era on May 4, 1904. Huntington Avenue Grounds was the host of four games in that first World Series, where the Boston Americans defeated the Pittsburgh Nationals five games to three. Denton True "Cy" Young (1867-1955) is baseball's all-time winningest pitcher with 511 career wins. Pitching for five different teams during his 22-year career, he established numerous records which have stood for a century including most career innings pitched (7,355), most career games started (815), and most complete games (749). Young's career started with the Cleveland Spiders in 1890 before moving to the St. Louis Perfectos in 1899. In 1901, he jumped to the newly created american League, joining the Boston franchise. He was traded back to Cleveland to play with the Naps before spending the final two months of his career in Boston, this time with the Rustlers in 1911. Young was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937. One year after his death, the Cy Young Award was created to honor the previous season's best pitcher.
