Название: Cherub, Dudley Monument On the north side of the Beauchamp chapel is this large and impressive monument marking the burial place of Elizabeth I's favourite, Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, who died in 1588. (His older brother Ambrose, Earl of Warwick lies nearby) Robert had an interesting role in the Court of Queen Elizabeth, who once even put him forward as a potential husband for Mary Queen of Scots. He was also under suspicion of killing his first wife, Amy Robsart, in order to make himself available for potentail marriage to the Queen. Regardless of this Elizabeth favoured him highly, and never forgave him for remarrying to Lettice Knollys (a great niece of Anne Boleyn) who lies buried here beside him.
