LVACWS New York The Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series (LVACWS) New York was held on the Hudson River over the weekend of May 7-8, 2016. The America's Cup World Series is oa series of preliminary match/fleet race regattas used as heats in the lead up to the 35th America's World Cup in 2017. The World Series are raced in AC45 catamarans, modified from the previous series to incorporate hydrofoiling capability for improved performance, in strict one-design. With poor wind conditions cancelling the Saturday heats, three races were held Sunday. Team New Zealand extended their overall lead in the World Series by winning the third race following two third place finishings. The first and second races were won by Artemis Racing and Groupama Team France, respectively. One World Trade Center, formerly known as the Freedom Tower, is the main building of the 16-acre rebuilt World Trade Center complex. Designed in the contemporary modern style by David Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), construction started in 2006, was topped off in 2012, and the building opened in 2014. The supertall structure, which has the same name as the North Tower of the original World Trade Center and sits on the site of the original 6 World Trade Center--both of which were destroyed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001--was, at its completion, the tallest in North America and the sixth tallest in the world, reaching a height of 1,776 feet, including its spire.
